April 20, 2010

Rain again today.
Almonds: So far no sign of disease in the almonds. Even the organic growers who haven’t done any sprays are not having problems. Every storm like this one has been cold which makes it harder for the Shot Hole or Anthracnose spores to germinate.

Walnuts: No blight seen. The copper sprays have been put on so lets hope the cold temperatures suppress the blight bacteria as well. Codling Moth is flying and we’ll be hitting the 1A timing soon.

Peaches: The cold wet weather will continue to keep Mildew under control.

The almonds and peaches in the last 7 days in Stanislaus and San Joaquin county used .63″ where no cover crop and 1.0″ with a cover crop. Merced and N. Madera counties used .73″ and 1.14″.
